   As my starting point for this web application, I used Tony Parisi's "Normal-Mapped Earth" from Chapter 4 of his Programming 3D Applications with HTML5 and WebGL (O'Reilly Publishing), which in turn uses the Three.js WebGL libraries of Mr. Doob.
